These are before and after shots of two new plots that have just started to be reclaimed. Only a 5 minute bike ride from the Ethel farm site.

Mushrooms growing in the winter!

Check out these mushrooms that are sprouting up in my compost piles. Despite snow and cold weather, the compost piles are still cooking at 50 degrees celsius. There seems to be a tiny micro-climate that exists in the piles. They are covered so that allows some heat to build up in the six inches from the surface.

The Rye cover crop is starting to grow, despite being a lot colder now.

Here are some more pictures of the Ethel site. This is the south side and back plot. It took a lot of work to get this soil plantable. Fall Rye has been planted for a cover crop.

Here are some pictures of todays work. The front beds have been set and some fall rye has been planted. The fall rye will help fix nitrogen in the soil, and then I'll till it into the soil in the spring. It's an organic practice called Green Manuring.

Things have been motoring along at the Ethel Street farm. The lawn has been removed and the gaping hole that was once on the side, has been filled. Here's some pictures of last weeks progress.
